What’s All the Fuss About Business Valuation?

If you own a business, there are many reasons why you need to be aware of its value. While many CEOs neglect to think about business valuation until it comes time to sell, in reality there are many reasons why this process should begin far sooner than that. Learn what you need to know about business valuation in today’s blog.

Now’s the time to determine your business valuation.

What’s All the Fuss About Business Valuation?

Why is business valuation so important?

Although you may be tempted to avoid thinking about business valuation until it comes time to sell, it is important to consider it much sooner than that. After all, you will inevitably leave your business at one point or another so it is never too soon to start thinking through your exit strategy.

The value of your business will impact your ability to retire, so it is important to begin examining it at least five years before you intend to exit. This will allow you the opportunity to assess where your business is at and figure out how to grow it in schedule with your desired timeline so that you can retire in the way that you want, when you want.

How is business valuation calculated?

In order to measure the value of a business, you must first determine why business valuation is necessary. The reason behind your business valuation is formally known as the business value standard and represents the possible conditions of the valuation. The circumstances surrounding your business valuation is known as the premise of value, which outlines assumptions that are engendered in the valuation, such as assuming that the business will continue in its current form (going concern) indefinitely.

Beyond these concerns, other factors that come into play during business valuation are economic conditions, a financial analysis, and normalization of financial statements.
